Life would not exist without drinking water. It is essential for every living thing here on earth. When Americans got concerned about pollutants getting into water reserves and eventually reaching the faucets in our homes numerous switched to bottled water. Bottled water may taste better than the water out of your tap, but many bottled water include high levels of nitrates.
Nitrates are fertilizers which are good for plants but not for humans. When we consume them in large quantities, nitrates might be harmful. They are colorless, odorless and tasteless. Because they are found in nature and used in agriculture, nitrates have seeped into the aquifer and they get into our bottled water.
Nitrates are harmful to our health. Excessive levels of nitrate in drinking water can cause major disease and in some cases death. They are especially harmful for pregnant women and infants. When nitrate is converted to nitrite by the body in infants it can interfere with the oxygen-carrying capacity of the child‘s blood. This can be an acute condition in which the health of the child deteriorates rapidly over a period of days. Symptoms include: shortness of breath and blueness of the skin.
Long-term consumption of high levels of nitrate in drinking water can cause the following diseases: MCL, diuresis, enhanced starchy deposits and hemorrhaging of the spleen. If we take in too numerous nitrates they can limit the ability of blood cells to deliver oxygen to important organs – including the brain. High levels of nitrates can also result in dysfunction of the circulatory system, thyroid problems, hypertension and even cancer.

Currently, the maximum contaminant level (MCL) of nitrates – which are derived from fertilizer, human sewage and livestock manure that seeps into water supplies is regulated differently in the U.S than select countries of the European Union. In the U.S., the environmental protection agency (EPA) has set the MCL of nitrates at 10 mg/L to deem drinking water save for adults, pregnant women and infants. The FDA enforces this regulation. In countries like Austria, France, Germany, and Italy, the MCL of nitrates is also set at 10 mg/L, but with particular protective policies in place requiring that nitrate content is 2.27 mg/L and lower in purchase to claim it is safe for infant consumption.
If you are concerned about the nitrate level in your drinking water there is a healthier solution. AQUA Carpatica is the world’s only nitrate-free mineral water. This healthier alternative to regular bottled water is currently available in the united states at Sprout’s Farmer’s Market stores. It will be available nationwide starting in may 2016.

In a recent test of drinking water out of the tap here in the Chicago area I was pleasantly surprised. Our drinking water has little to no nitrates similar to AQUA Carpatica.
When I evaluated the water from our go-to brand of bottled water I got similar results.
I concluded that either the test strips offered by AQUA Carpatica don’t work, or bottled water and tap water in the united states is not really as high inNitrates as AQUA Carpatica claims.
